Safety Education Class Brought to Campus — Highlights from the City’s 2026 National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Day Publicity Campaign

On May 12, the 18th National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Day, the city’s 2026 centralized publicity campaign for National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Day was held at Chaoyang Primary School, aiming to popularize disaster prevention and mitigation knowledge and enhance students’ emergency evacuation, self-rescue, and mutual rescue abilities.
The event was jointly organized by the Municipal Safety and Emergency Committee Office, the Municipal Emergency Management Bureau, the Municipal Education Bureau, the Municipal Fire and Rescue Department, and the Municipal Blue Sky Rescue Team. Through emergency drills, science education lectures, and interactive experiences, the organizers delivered a practical and engaging safety education class for teachers and students.
At 8:50 a.m., the sound of an alarm marked the beginning of a simulated campus fire evacuation drill.
“Bend down, cover your mouth and nose, and move quickly along the wall!” teachers calmly guided students in each class. Following the evacuation procedures strictly, all students quickly and orderly evacuated along the pre-planned escape routes to designated safe areas.
Soon afterward, three fire engines arrived on the scene, and firefighters immediately launched a realistic emergency response demonstration. A ladder truck extended and elevated precisely, while high-pressure water cannons sprayed powerful streams toward the simulated fire source. The entire firefighting process was carried out smoothly, vividly demonstrating standard emergency response procedures.
Following the drill, firefighters used simple and easy-to-understand language to explain fire escape skills and daily fire prevention knowledge. They also interacted enthusiastically with students and distributed cartoon firefighter-themed dolls, greatly stimulating students’ interest in learning safety knowledge.
At the nearby firefighting equipment exhibition area, various professional firefighting and rescue tools were neatly displayed.
“This fire mask looks so cool!”
“I didn’t know rescue tools were this heavy!”
Students gathered around the equipment with curiosity. Under firefighters’ guidance, they tried on protective masks and operated simple rescue devices themselves, turning safety knowledge into hands-on emergency response skills.
The anti-drowning safety lecture was equally informative. At the campus sub-venue, members of the Municipal Blue Sky Rescue Team explained key anti-drowning safety concepts in detail, including the “Six Don’ts” for drowning prevention, how to identify dangers in natural waters, and self-rescue techniques in drowning situations. They also gave hands-on demonstrations on properly wearing life jackets and using lifebuoys and rescue ropes. Scenario-based interactive activities made the safety lessons vivid and easy to understand.
The event also featured safety knowledge quizzes and random interactive checks, reinforcing what students had learned in a fun and engaging way and helping integrate safety awareness into daily life.
“Immersive, experiential, and interactive disaster prevention and mitigation education activities break through the limitations of traditional safety education, allowing safety knowledge to truly take root in students’ minds while comprehensively improving campus emergency response and self-rescue capabilities,” said a representative of Chaoyang Primary School.
The school will continue strengthening safety awareness education, guiding teachers and students to actively learn emergency response skills and consciously practice safe behaviors, jointly building a safe, stable, and orderly campus environment.
