Xiantao Introduces AI-Assisted Judging for Physical Education Entrance Exam

On April 13, the 2026 Physical Education Entrance Examination in Xiantao officially kicked off at Ronghuai School. On the first day, 1,238 candidates completed various test events under the supervision of newly deployed AI-powered monitoring systems. Scores were displayed in real time and printed on-site, with no visible human intervention throughout the process.
At the check-in channel, candidates verified their identities by facing a facial recognition terminal. With a simple “beep,” the system completed verification within just two to three seconds. On the long-distance running field, the once-busy scene of manual flag-waving and stopwatch timing has been replaced by high-definition cameras and sensor equipment installed along the track. As the electronic starting signal sounded, the AI system, like an eagle eye, automatically locked onto each candidate’s starting moment and precisely recorded every frame as they crossed the finish line.
“Right after finishing the run, I looked up and saw my score appear on the big screen—it made me feel much more at ease,” said a male student who had just completed the 1,000-meter test. “With this kind of exam, students are convinced, and parents feel reassured,” several accompanying teachers remarked at the test site.
According to a representative from the Municipal Education Admissions and Examinations Authority, a total of 14,871 candidates across the city are participating in this year’s physical education exam, all of whom are being assessed using AI-powered systems. From identity verification and guided entry to event testing, real-time score display, and printing, the entire process has achieved “zero human intervention.” The official noted that this marks the second year Xiantao has adopted AI technology in the PE exam. The system provides full video recording and traceability, significantly reducing the possibility of human error. “By leveraging technology, we aim to safeguard fairness in examinations and make the process more equitable and transparent.”
The exam is scheduled to run from April 13 to April 24, covering four events in total: two compulsory and two optional. The compulsory events include the 1,000-meter run and pull-ups for boys, and the 800-meter run and sit-ups for girls. Optional events include one ball sport (basketball, football, or volleyball) and one additional test (50-meter sprint, rope skipping, or standing long jump).
